The Raiders and Sharks have built up a special rivalry during the past decade and there was no love lost when they squared off at GIO Stadium on Sunday.
The Viking Clap set the scene and got the blood pumping for the Green Machine faithful and from there with their stars Hudson Young, Joe Tapine, Ethan Strange taking up the challenge to try and get the Raiders back on track after back-to-back losses to the Bulldogs and Warriors.
However, the Sharks were able to overcome their own flat spot they had been in during the past fortnight, rediscovering their attacking mojo in the 34-22 win.
In a seesawing game, they repeated their semi-final heroics in Canberra last year when they sent the Raiders tumbling out of the play-offs.
Round 4 came to a close on the Gold Coast with the Titans and Dragons out to turn their fortunes around and get on the board for the first time in 2026.
In a hard-fought game with plenty of errors, but a tonne of desperation and effort, the Titans were able to get the better of the Dragons to claim their first win and a first victory for Josh Hannay as a full-time NRL coach.
There was concern for Dragons five-eighth Kyle Flanagan who had to be assisted from the field by a medicab after a head clash and was sent to the hospital for precautionary scans.

Titans: Round 4
Full-time: The Titans claim their first win of the year with a 22-14 result and Josh Hannay has his first win as a full-time NRL coach. The Dragons are still on the hunt for a victory and had a 12-6 lead at half-time. Second rower Arama Hau had the game of his life, scoring two impressive and important tries to set up the win.
79th min: Desperation defence from the Titans to close out the game as they force a line drop out after pushing Daniel Atkinson back into the in goal. The Dragons then give up a penalty from the drop out and the Titans let Pascoe take the kick which he slots, pushing the score out to 22-14.
Arama Hau 2nd Try
74th min: Hau puts his side in front for the first time with a great run to score his double. Another short pass at the line from Campbell does the trick and he does all the rest. Campbell's conversion is successful and the Titans have a 20-14 lead.
70th min: Pascoe draws another penalty for the Titans and this time, they go for the two points with Campbell slotting the goal to level it up 14-14.
69th min: Titans get a penalty for a dangerous tackle from Jaydn Su'A on Sami, but choose to press for a try, despite being a kickable distance away.
60th min - Kyle Flanagan comes from the field for a HIA following a nasty head clash attempting to tackle Pascoe who was going for a run to the line. Play was stopped with Flanagan needing assistance from the medicab.
Debut alert - Oliver Pascoe comes on for his NRL debut - Titan #207.
55th min: The Bunker confirms an on-field call of no-try - but it was a spectacular effort from the Titans. Kini makes a break, flicks the ball out to Jojo Fifita who runs away the length of the field, finds Hau and out to Sami who thought he got over the top to Sloan to score. However, there is a knock on and the score remains 14-12.
Crowd: 12,241 on a Sunday night at Cbus Super Stadium.
51st min: Third time unlucky for the Titans with an unsuccessful captain's challenge questioning a penalty for a strip by Lachlan Ilias.
48th min: A change of fortune for the home side with Sloan penalised for a disruptor on Kini. With the ball in possession, the Titans attack and Arama Hau is on the board for the first try of the second half with a strong run to the line after taking a short, flat ball from Campbell. JC converts and it's 14-12.
Arama Hau Try
45th min: Titans coach Josh Hannay had asked his side to clean up their discipline in the second half, but the message appears to have been forgotten with the home side giving up back-to-back penalties. Fermor is penalised for stripping a ball and Holmes takes the successful penalty kick, pushing scores out to 14-6.
42nd min: Unfortunate error for the Titans, with Kini throwing a forward pass out to Sami who was on his way over to score.
41st min: Poor start for the Dragons with an error from the kick off. Atkinson puts his foot on the deadball line when fielding the ball.
Half-time: The Dragons go to the break with a 12-6 lead, but would have wanted to see more points on the board, considering they have had the bulk of possession, with 54 percent. Both teams have shown plenty of desperation in their hunt for their first win and have made four errors apiece. However, the Titans have conceded seven penalties to three and two ruck infringements to three.
40th min: AJ Brimson finds the line for the Titans playing out in the centres. He has been doing his best to stay involved in this match and goes over - but the Bunker overrules the try, citing an obstruction from Beau Fermor on Daniel Atkinson. Score remains 12-6.
38th min: Another captain's challenge from the Titans who questioned the calling of a knock on from winger Siale Faeamani who was scooping up a ball played at by the Dragons. They are once again successful and get a chance to attack before the break.
30th min: A captain's challenge from the Titans is successful, with Campbell adamant as soon as the penalty was blown for a lost ball that he had full control.
26th min: Another dropped high kick from Kini and another reward for the Dragons, with Damien Cook running in to put his side back in front. The errors are being punished in this game. Holmes converts and it's 12-6 to the Dragons.
10th min: Phil Sami intercepts a pass from Holmes who was looking to find Sloan again and runs 80 metres to score the opener for the Titans. Jayden Campbell slots the conversion and it's 6-6.
4th min: The recalled Tyrell Sloan is in for the first try of the game, sliding over in the right corner after running onto a tip of from Valentine Holmes. The Dragons capitalised from a few errors from the Titans to start the game, including a dropped ball out the back from fullback Keano Kini and a ruck infringement from captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui. Holmes slots the goal and the Dragons are up 6-0.
Tyrell Sloan Try
Kick-off: Dragons kick off to give the home side the first use of the ball.
Late Mail
Titans: More changes to the line up on game day. AJ Brimson will start at centre, with Lachlan Ilias moving in to pair with Jayden Campbell in the halves. Max Feagai moves to the interchange, as does Moeaki Fotuaika, with Klese Haas to start. Jett Liu remains on the interchange bench. Earlier, Tukimihia Simpkins and Josh Patston dropped out and Jaylan De Groot and debutant Oliver Pascoe moved up from the reserves. Earlier, Jayden Campbell was named to wear the No.7 jersey and lead the Titans around the park after being a late inclusion in the starting side last week. The halfback showed no signs of a hamstring injury that kept him off the field in the opening two rounds and is looking to steer Gold Coast to victory. Josh Hannay has the luxury of stability as the Titans chase their first win of the year.
Dragons: More changes for the Dragons as well on game day. Tyrell Sloan will start on the win, with Setu Tu omitted. Other changes see Hame Sele move to start at lock, with Hamish Stewart onto the interchange. Lyhkan King-Togia remains on the interchange. Earlier, Hayden Buchanan came into the centres with Moses Suli (personal reasons) out of the game. Tyrell Sloan moves up into the six-player interchange bench, with Lyhkan King-Togia remaining in the reserves. Identical twins Ryan (suspension) and Toby (concussion protocols) Couchman will miss Sunday night's clash with the Titans, paving the way for Blake Lawrie to start at prop and Hamish Stewart at lock. Coach Shane Flanagan has opted to use Stewart off the bench in the opening weeks of the season, so we could see Hame Sele come into the starting side on game day.
One of the changes to the named Titans line up, Oliver Pascoe will make his first NRL appearance.
Pascoe will become the latest player to make his NRL debut after first appearing in the NRL All Stars fixture.

Sharks: Round 4
Full-time: The Sharks have claimed the two points in the nation's capital with a 34-22 win in an end-to-end and seesawing game.
79th min: After a frenetic and exhausting few minutes to end the game, the Sharks choose to slow things down and take the gift two points offered to them with the Raiders giving up a penalty in front of the sticks. Hynes slot the penalty and it's 34-22.
72nd min: Cronulla look to have sealed up the match with a try to Jesse Colquhoun that has come through persistence despite fatigue. Nicho Hynes puts in a short kick and the only Raiders player there to field it is Noah Martin, but he can't handle the ball. Hynes is there to flick the back back to his lock to score. However, Hynes misses the conversion and it's 32-22.
59th min: Sharks are back out in front, with hard-working fullback Will Kennedy taking a nice pass from Trindall on the last play and running in to score. Hynes converts and the visitors are back to a converted try ahead 28-22.
59th min: A successful captain's challenge from the Sharks that has found a Raider knock on by Weekes.
56th min: The seesawing game continues to provide points, with Xavier Savage running in for another Raiders try. After a line drop out, the Raiders go out to their speedster on the right, with the Cairns Brothers junior putting on a step to bamboozle three defenders before pushing off to sprint away to score. Sanders kicks the goal to draw scores level 22-22.
Xavier Savage Try
49th min: Seemingly against the run of play, the Sharks go in through Samuel Stonestreet to extend their lead again. The Raiders could not handle a high kick, knocking it on and the Sharks were there to pick up the scraps. Hynes can't get it over from the left sideline and it's 22-16 to Cronulla.
46th min: After mounting some pressure, the Raiders are rewarded with the first a try of the second half. The team go out on their left edge with Savelio Tamale catching the ball out on the sideline and diving over. Sanders conversion attempt comes off the far post, keeping the scores at 18-16.
Savelio Tamale Try
Half-time: Time for the players to have a break after an entertaining and busy first half. The Sharks have looked the better team and it shows on the scoreboard 18-12, but the Raiders will be happy to be within a converted try after a rough start that included having a player sent to the sin bin.
37th min: Sione Katoa is over with a dive at the line - but the Bunker has intervened and overruled the try ruling with the winger just getting his foot on the line before pushing off to dive. Score remains 18-12.
26th min: An error from Trindall hands the ball back to the Raiders and they capitalise. Firstly going out the their right before coming back out to their left, they find success with a nice flick pass from Sebastian Kris along the way. Hudson Young is the one to run in to score, with Sanders converting. Sharks in front 18-12.
22nd min: More points for the Sharks, with Billy Burns running in, this time on the right side. Some good passing in the lead up, with the halves Trindall and Hynes combining, with the halfback dishing the last pass. Hynes converts the try and the Sharks are out to an 18-6 lead.
Billy Burns Try
17th min: The Raiders are on the board after showcasing their speed down their right edge. Simi Sasagi gets a ball out to Xavier Savage who makes a break, with Kaeo Weekes supporting on his inside, taking the pass and running in to score. Ethan Sanders kicks the conversion and it's 12-6 to the Sharks.
Kaeo Weekes Try
9th min: After claiming a short drop out, there is another try down the left side for the Sharks, with KL Iro running a similar angle. Hynes once again strikes the ball through the sticks and it's 12-0 to Cronulla.
6th min: The Sharks don't take long to capitalise on their extra player advantage, spreading the ball to the left, with Teig Wilton running back inside on a short ball from Braydon Trindall to score. Nicho Hynes lines up the conversion successfully and it's a 6-0 lead to the Sharks.
Teig Wilton Try
4th min: Drama early with Raiders forward Corey Horsburgh sent to the sin bin for a professional foul.
Kick-off: Sharks launch the ball and Canberra have the first opportunity with the ball in front of their home crowd.
Family Feud - bit of fun today with the Brailey brothers (Blayke and Jayden) going head-to-head.
Blayke ready to take on brother Jayden

Raiders: No late changes on game day. Morgan Smithies is set to start at prop after Josh Papalii accepted a one-game ban for a high tackle. Young gun Joe Roddy is the new face on the bench and is pushing for his second NRL appearance. Matt Timoko and Chevy Stewart were omitted in the 24-hour update.
Sharks: A late swap, with Toby Rudolf promoted to start, with Tom Hazelton moving to the bench. On the interchange, Tuku Hau Tapuna has been omitted, moving Chris Vea'ila from the reserves into the interchange. Earlier, Briton Nikora will miss Sunday's crucial clash due to a broken nose, opening the door for Teig Wilton to return to the starting side. The back-rower made a successful comeback from shoulder surgery via the interchange last week. Braden Uele comes on to the bench as a result. Jayden Berrell and Mawene Hiroti were omitted in the 24-hour update.
